MEET THE BAND Chris, Keith, Justin, Randall, Tim & Brandon
Blue Moon Rising is a bluegrass band from East Tennessee that was founded in November 2000 by Tim Tipton, Justin Moses, Chris West, and Keith Garrett. These four founding members had a few simple goals – they wanted to write and record some original bluegrass songs and maybe play some local festivals. Fast forward almost 20 years later, and Blue Moon Rising has become a staple in the world of bluegrass. Their songs have garnered attention from fans all over the world and have appeared on charts from Billboard, Bluegrass Today, Bluegrass Unlimited, and Roots Music Report. The “little-band-that-could” that started out with meager goals has now played hundreds of dates all across the United States and Canada.
The band has had a few personnel changes over the years, as most bands do if they last over a couple of decades, but the core focus of the band has never been altered. The current lineup of the band is a mix of old and new members, a group of friends that would be as comfortable getting together for an evening jam as they would be embarking on a national tour. Three of the original members, Tim Tipton, Keith Garrett, and Chris West, are part of the current band, as are three guys who have decades of the combined membership of Blue Moon Rising: Randall Massengill, Justin Jenkins, and Brandon Bostic.
“After All This Time” is an appropriate title for the band’s current project, which is set for release on Mountain Fever Records in May 2019. Fans old and new are likely to be impressed with this effort, for it is Blue Moon Rising at its finest. They are still writing and recording great bluegrass songs, but now with a flare and focus that only comes with the years of experience and the friendship that these guys share.
With two singles released so far, "Louisville Rambler," and "Fallen Star Saloon," the band is already topping the charts and receiving rave reviews from bluegrass radio and industry peers. In fact, "Louisville Rambler" achieved the #1 spot on the Bluegrass Today Weekly Chart on April 19, 2019, corroborating that the material and recording are on the right track. Rambler was Blue Moon Rising's first #1 since 2010's hit, "Time to be Movin' On," which hit the top spot on multiple charts. Since then, "Fallen Star Saloon" has cracked the #1 spot on the Bluegrass Today Weekly spot (6/21/2019), as well as earned the #1 single for the month of July 2019. The album, AFTER ALL THIS TIME has graced the Roots Music Report Chart #1 position three times already as well in the month of June 2019. In all, seven singles from the record have already charted on various bluegrass and roots music charts since it's release, proving that this may very well be the best we've heard from this highly acclaimed band to date.
The band's first scheduled show since announcing their exciting return to the mainstream bluegrass scene sold out weeks in advance and the second looks good to do the same. The fans are making it widely known that they are more than happy to show their appreciation for the return of this bluegrass favorite. Blue Moon Rising continues to be a band motivated by quality material, solid instrumentation and a core friendship between the members. Seemingly, this is working out to be the best recipe for a long and well respected musical journey.
"Blue Moon Rising boasts an embarrassment of riches in the vocal department. Not one, nor even two, but three lead singers represent the band’s sound on stage. What it may cause in confusion on the radio is more than compensated for in the variety they can offer on stage, and on recordings.....Brandon shows himself to be a very capable crooner on this number, whose feel good story is sure to resonate with the bluegrass audience."
Brian Dowdall - The British Bluegrass Music Association Magazine
"Blue Moon Rising is a great traditional sounding bluegrass band, not a copy of the old time bands but sounding like they are a first generation band, distinctive and classy, and this is an album for all fans of the genre."
The full album was released on Mountain Fever Records May19th and big things are expected from the rest of the tracks. This diverse album has already shown a wide variety in lead vocal strengths accompanying the seasoned players, and solid engineering from Brandon Bostic's Root Note Studio in Nashville. We look forward to sharing this incredible band with you on the radio and stage throughout the coming year!
